Mamo #13: Better Late than Mamo

Unlucky Mamo #13 arrives fairly late (it was recorded on September 18th) due to a plague of technical problems that might have been real or imagined... but it's here at last! Join the Matts as they wrap up the Toronto International Film Festival 2005 in an extra-long podcast (to make up for the extra-short ones prior) that talks about the best of the fest, the worst of the price wars, and everything in between.

There's two different versions of James Bond characters. There's the movie version that everyone is familar with and who has becoming more and more of a cartoon-like character over the years. Then there's Ian Fleming's James Bond from the books, which is a lot more realistic and gritty and Bond is a completely psychotic bastard, as he needs to be in order to do his job.

From what they have been talking about with Casino Royal, they are going back to original James Bond from the books. I've read Casion Royal and it's a really great book and if they can manage to get even part of that into the movie it could be a really great film. For once a James Bond movie will be a really interesting movie instead of a mindless action movie. Not that the typical James Bond movies aren't fun. I think that they are very fun and entertaining movies, but at the same time, especially the James Bond movies in the last 20 years, have been disposable and forgetable. There's just no substance to them and it sounds like they are going to try to make cool interesting film.

Now if only they could have gotten Quentin Tarantino to have directed Casino Royal, it would have been such a incredible movie!
