Mamo #63: Grizzled, Gritty, Glorious

Oscar hopefuls abound, and zounds it's time to take a peek at that venerable workhorse, the war picture. Since the box office onslaught of Saving Private Ryan, nobody seems to be able to hit the target for the greatest generation. Why not? Plus, Superman Returns some more, and our meals arrive with extra lemon. So gird yourself for a stirring shot of Mamo.

In the podcast you guys mention that you think that "Death of the President" isn't playing in the US. Actually, it did open to limited release on October 27th, however several theatre chains banned the movie from playing in their theaters. However, the movie has done quite poorly, so I imagine that it won't expand beyond it's limited release.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that people should practice self-censorship and if someone finds something offensive simply don't watch it rather than banning something which forces a certain group's opinion of something on everyone else. Especially when it comes to something like a movie, where people aren't going to accidentally see it but have to go pay to see it. With a title like "Death of a President", no one should be caught off guard when a president gets killed in the movie.
