mamo #110: Call me Porn King Vogel

Our definition of a weekly show continues to evolve, as do the two of us. If only something about the movie business excited us.

Sometimes I listen to Mamo and while entertaining I disagree with a lot of what you guys are saying. Yet other times, like this one which is totally dead on.

My wife mentioned the other day that it's been a long time since we've seen a new movie and asked me what was playing since I usually know. Strangely enough, I had no idea not just what might be good or bad, but simply no idea what was playing. So I looked into what was playing and not only was there really nothing interesting, but all of April looked the same way. Maybe Run, Fatboy Run because Simon Pegg co-wrote the script and I've enjoyed his work, but at the same time it looks more like a rental than something I would want to see in the theatre. Things get interesting again in May with Iron Man. Otherwise besides reading about upcoming movies, I have no interest in what's playing.

That really good Sam Raimi movie that Mr Price was thinking of is A Simple Plan.

I do agree that Coraline looks absolutely incredible and that's just from the online trailer without 3D! To date the best looking 3D movie I've seen is the Nightmare Before Christmas re-release. There's just something about the models of stop-motion animation that I think beats the pants off of CGI and live-action 3D. So I'm really looking forward to seeing how well Coraline works out. As for it being too scary for kids, Gaiman has mentioned on his blog several times that adults seem to find Coraline scarier and more intense than kids do for some reasons. It's not that they don't find it scary, but it just really freaks out adults in ways that kids don't seem mature enough to get.

As for the new Justice League movie, I find it hard to care even remotely with what they are doing with it after watching the incredibly good Justice League: The New Frontier on DVD. Now THAT is how you many a Justice League movie!!

A Simple Plan.
Hayden is always bad in films with green screen. He's very good in Life As A House & Shattered Glass.
