Mamo #113: Iron Mamo.

Iron Man opened this weekend with a higher take than even the optimists have expected, and Marvel celebrated by unveiling their plans for the rest of "phase 2" of their movie-making career. What does this hold for the future of comic book movies? Let's find out. Or at least, speak as though we know things.

Lot's of heavy breathing in this episode...

Quite enjoyed finally having a Mamo talk about new release that I'd already seen.

Getting the girlfriend out to the theater more than once a month is torture.

I am Iron Man. (Seriously, I've got some metal in my shoulder.)

I've heard good things about Maggie Gyllenhaal in The Dark Knight. Let's hope they get the girl right in that one.

A vital clue in the annals of Marvel film plan speculation has been found to be the Marvel edition of the boardgame Heroscape. With the game you get ten detailed plastic minatures of Marvel heroes and Villain either already enfranchised or somewhat bizarre looking to the casual observer. Bear witness:

Spidey - obvious.
Venom - As seen in Spidey 3 (although the figurine is actually a better depiction)
Dr. Doom - As seen in FF1 & 2 (see above re: figurine vs. filmic incarnation.)
Silver Surfer - As seen in FF 2 (and trust me they scaled back the power cosmic something wicked to fit him into the game)
Iron Man - As seen in... well, you get the picture.

What is more surprising to the casual observer is that you also get The Hulk (until you realise they're having a stab at that this summer) and he's paired off with... oh, the Abomination. That made no sense to me at all until I saw the trailer for the new Hulk.

Almost finally we have Captain America who is to be realised in 2011 apparently, and who's he paired off with villain-wise? Oh, that would be the Red Skull then. So if you are really bummed at the concept of a period Marvel project I would say this may be the time.

Although there is some hope. The final villain in the pack, intended as a counterpart to Silver Surfer is... wait for it... Thanos!

I'm not sure he's a character that they plan to bung into a movie but given the fact that 8 out of 10 are confirmed sightings who knows true believers!?
